01Requirements
iriz requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later. Qualified on-device intelligence can reduce cloud analysis; OpenAI fallback preserves quality when Apple Intelligence is disabled, downloading, unavailable, uncertain, or not yet qualified, and can increase API usage.
02Permissions
Screen Recording enables visual context. Accessibility identifies the active app, window, and browser URL. Microphone and Notifications are optional.
03Privacy controls
Pause from the app or with ⇧⌘P. Use the permission button to open Privacy settings directly, add exclusions, or revoke access in macOS System Settings.
Common questions
Quick answers.
What is an Action?+
Actions are context-aware next steps iriz creates from meaningful commitments and unfinished work. You can create one manually, change its subject or priority, snooze it, merge related Actions, export it to Reminders, or validate it when it is done.
Why are there no new Actions?+
Confirm onboarding is complete, iriz is not paused, the relevant observation channel is enabled, your OpenAI API key is valid, and the required permission is granted. iriz intentionally suppresses routine or low-value activity, so not every window change or voice segment creates an Action.
What does the gradient Validate button mean?+
A normal green button is the standard manual completion control. A green AI gradient means iriz found promising evidence that the Action may be complete but still needs your confirmation. Explicit completion evidence can move an Action directly to Completed.
What does the indicator show?+
Blue means Observing, green means Listening, red-pink means Private, and yellow means Meeting. Active states combine into one gradient. A rotating contextual gradient means an OpenAI request is active; it continues until the final concurrent request finishes.
Where do I add my OpenAI API key?+
Open iriz Settings, choose AI & Language, and use Test & Save. The key is stored in macOS Keychain and requests go directly from your Mac to OpenAI.
Can I use iriz without microphone access?+
Yes. Listening is optional and can remain disabled. Screen-based memory, Actions, and Ask iriz can still work when their required permissions and API access are enabled.
How do I stop iriz from observing a specific app or website?+
Open Settings → Privacy and add the application bundle identifier, domain, or a window-title keyword to the exclusion lists. Password managers and authentication windows are excluded automatically.
How long are screenshots and audio kept?+
Raw screenshots and audio are encrypted locally and expire after 24 hours. Structured memory retention is controlled separately in Settings.
How does Ask iriz use my data?+
iriz searches and ranks memory locally first. Only a bounded set of relevant events and limited recent context from that conversation is sent for an answer. The answer keeps links to its supporting local sources, and conversations can be pinned or removed.
How do I export my data?+
Use Export in Settings and choose JSON or Markdown. Exports are not encrypted, so store them carefully. Raw screenshots, raw audio, and API keys are never included. Individual Actions can also be copied or added to Reminders.
